Great article. Fresh snow rides are always this way, either the best or the worst, or both.  I love that feeling when first setting out simply not knowing what the next 2hrs will bring

Good PSA.   Will try to be better but no doubt by December will be back to the plug ‘em in when I get home from the ride and unplug ‘em in the am routine.

I'm with you on the security:  I tend to wear a back protector vest when not using the backpack, and also run a chin guard helmet for the same "I'm getting older want the (false?) sense of security" reason.   Preparing for a mechanical, dehydration in the hot, or getting cold in the winter,  though are just simple common sense.   All of the above help me remove the "safety nanny" noises in my head so I can focus on the riding

SRAM’s “soon-to-be-released new DH brakes:”  The only reason I haven’t pulled the trigger on Dominion T4s for my next build is due to waiting to hear how the Mavens (or whatever the end up naming them) turn out.

Find it depends mostly on the weather, especially the hyperthermia potential, in my selection of what I bring with me, which drives the bag capacity need.  (North shore all weather rider, 70% solo rider).   Use an evoc backpack regularity in winter, but tend to downsize to their 3L hip back in the spring and fall.

I had Sateen convert a 20+ year old Burton AK 3L snowboard jacket into a riding vest last fall, and it became my go to for most rides (used over a merino long sleeve).    The best part of this is that the jacket had been collecting dust for a decade and now sees 3x per week use 5 months a year.

I'm so converted to the way of the converted vest, that am considering changing my EMJ into an Emotional Support Vest.

My trusty Dinotte is acting up so now I’m in the market for a new bar light (to complement my helmet spot).  Does anyone have hands on experience between the outbound trail vs the gloworm xs?

My mullet Stylus build.  Still trying to get the Z1 dialled but love the modern geo and feel.  So far am getting away running the 52T cassette with the older style eagle derailleur.  This is my first shore worthy HT and finding my full squish is getting left at home most days ;)
